My husband Chris & I (Tabitha) are both Registered nurses, who met working in an Intensive Care Unit. On the surface we were very different. Chris, who was born in Germany, grew up traveling and living overseas, attended the Air Force Academy, and had a previous career as a Civil Engineer in NYC. I, on the other hand, am a born here, raised here, N.C. native who grew up riding horses, gardening with my grandparents and attended the NC State Ag Institute after Highschool (turns out commercial farming wasn’t for me!) Our differences aside, we shared a passion for questioning modern medical “norms”, a distrust of commercial food practices and the genuine desire to seek health from a holistic, self-sustaining approach. Fast Forward to 2022, the family, consisting of us, 3 wild boys, and 1 “Elmo” (the boy’s name for their grandma), were finally able to put years of dreams into acres, purchasing land in Smithfield NC. We couldn’t be more excited that our homestead is now a reality. Sugar Run Farm is just a seedling, but we look forward to growing into a resource for recreation, education and healthy living for our family, neighbors and the community.
